Motorolas wireless earbuds are better than most but still not good enough to buy

Motorolas wireless earbuds are better than most but still not good enough to buy Dont blink, because theres another new pair of earbuds promising the dream of true wireless on the market: the Motorola VerveOnes. Debuted at Mobile World Congress and on sale this month, they start at $200, and they skip things like heart rate monitoring and fitness tracking. These buds are all about audio, and to be clear, the name is just a licensing deal, as theyre really made by a company called Binatone. Ive been testing the $250 version the IP57 waterproof VerveOnes+ for the last week. While they get a few things right, the experience is still a far cry from what youd want from truly wireless earbuds.  Lets start with the good, because there actually is some in the right light. In these early days of truly wireless earbuds there are two connections you have to worry about: earbud to earbud, and earbud to phone. The VerveOnes are, in both respects, the best at maintaining their wirele...

Mt Mitchell On Top of the World as far as us East Coasters are concerned

Mt Mitchell On Top of the World as far as us East Coasters are concerned Seven or eight years ago, Jeremy and I were spending our usual couple of weeks in Asheville during the month of July. The free music festival Belle Chere is held there every year on the last weekend in July, and we had our pre-parenthood traditions that included lots of late nights listening to music in crowded bars, followed by sleeping in until all hours, and then maybe getting around to an afternoon hike. One of these lazy afternoons was hot and humid enough to chase us up to a higher altitude. We learned early on in our mountain explorations that if you want to escape the heat, just go up a few thousand feet. And bring a sweater...and a raincoat, because you never know. So we decided to head up to Mt. Mitchell, the highest point east of Mississippi. We werent up for any of those real hikes (on account of all that music in bars), so we stumbled onto the Balsam Nature Trail, an easy mile loop full of stones and ...

Lyft and Uber are testing grocery deliveries with Walmart

Lyft and Uber are testing grocery deliveries with Walmart Walmart has already been hard at work testing and rolling out its online grocery pickup service offered in San Jose, California and Denver, Colorado. The company is currently preparing to test Walmart grocery deliveries by teaming up with Uber and Lyft. The company is going to begin piloting the delivery service in Denver, Colorado, and Phoenix Arizona. In addition, Sams Club (Walmart-owned wholesale chain) has already started its own delivery program with Business partners out of Miami. Here is how the delivery process works: First, the customer in one of the test area locations places an online order and selects a delivery window, then a personal shopper will collect all the items and prepares the order. Meanwhile, the store may request a driver from one of the two services to pick up the customers order and deliver it to their home. The best part is, the delivery service fee is charged through Walmart, so there is no need t...

Why the MiniKicks Still Win Everytime or my scooters are better than your bikes

Why the MiniKicks Still Win Everytime or my scooters are better than your bikes It seems that during the week in which my boys learned to crawl they also held a meeting wherein they decided that from that day onward the stroller just would not do. Even under the circumstances of extreme exhaustion, they agreed never to settle for anything less than Mommas back or Dadas neck. For a long stretch of time, we found ourselves doing things like carrying toddlers while pushing an empty stroller. Fools at best; suckers at worst. Eventually we just stopped bringing the stroller and embraced our temporary state as pack-mules for the tiny totalitarians.  One of the steps is acceptance, right? But then they got a lot heavier and a bit more reasonable. I decided to reintroduce the stroller as more of a royal livery--they could climb in to rest their weary limbs if need be, take a drink, grab a snack, and then disembark when they felt the need to stretch their limbs. Straps are never acknowledge...

Who are the Anonymous

Who are the Anonymous Remember, remember the fifth of November... a sentence well known amongst members of the Anonymous. If you have even the slightest interest in hacking groups, or just watch the news, you have heard about Anonymous.  They are a group of hacktivists who are loosely organized and kept together mostly by common ideas. They are famous for their diverse approach to publicizing issues or classified information and their fights against censorship. The group originated on the imageboard 4chan in 2003, acting towards their own goals, whether it is for the lulz (a variation of "lol", used by 4chan users) or the greater good. The users on 4chan can choose to post as anonymous, which inspired the name. Their most noticeable characteristic is the lack of face or identity as displayed in their logo (Figure 1). When acting in public they hide their identities by wearing Guy Fawkes masks (Figure 2) and when acting on the Internet they make sure nobody can trace them i...
